What it is
Thymosin Alpha-1 (Tα1) is a peptide of 28 amino acids that the body naturally produces in the thymus, a gland central to the development and regulation of the immune system. The pharmaceutical form is a synthetic copy known generically as thymalfasin and sold under the brand name Zadaxin in several countries.1
Unlike many peptides discussed online, Thymosin Alpha-1 has a genuine clinical track record in parts of the world. That makes its regulatory nuance — approved in some countries, not fully approved in the United States — one of the most important things to understand about it.
How it works
Thymosin Alpha-1 acts as an immune modulator rather than a simple stimulant. It is thought to help mature and direct T cells, support the activity of immune cells such as dendritic cells and natural killer cells, and influence signalling that helps the immune system respond to infection while keeping it in balance.2

Human evidence is more substantial here than for most peptides on this site. Clinical trials, particularly in chronic hepatitis B and C (often as an adjunct to other therapy), supported its approval as a medicine in a number of countries.3 It has also been studied in sepsis, certain cancers and vaccine responses, where results have been mixed and not always confirmed in large, rigorous trials. Safety & side effects
